Dummy Magazin

— Creative Digital Copy

In my project, I explore copying as a design method by creatively applying the concept of copying and digital duplication in my own design. The starting point was engaging with the print magazine Dummy No. 55, which I reinterpret as an interactive website. The website serves as a digital copy that references the original content of the magazine, yet enhances it in a new context using modern design methods. Here, copying is understood not merely as replication but as a creative method to transform and expand content.

The website’s design reflects the digital age, where copying and duplication have become commonplace. Through animations, layering of images and text, and loud, bold, colorful typography, the concept of noise and clamor is amplified both visually and acoustically. Particularly striking are the words in the text that describe noise and clamor, highlighted through animation and typography to emphasize the intensity of the statements. In this way, copying is used as a tool to create new perspectives on familiar content and to question the concepts of originality and reproduction.

Layering

The concept primarily uses layering in the photo series. This involves image cropping, color accents, and shifting perspectives, resulting in a collage-like style.

Hover on the photograph: Through shifts in perspective, repetition of noise elements (hammer, dust clouds), and the use of the pink section color, a new playful interpretation is created.

The recreation of the copy is achieved by cutting out the craters and arranging the question within the photograph.

Noise in Text Form

The layering effect is also deliberately applied in the typographic elements. It extends from the headings into the body text, adding depth and tension to the design. Letterforms overlap, outlines emerge, and individual words are repeated—especially where noise or clamor is described. This creates not only a visual emphasis but also a sense of the constant presence of noise in our daily lives.

Animations & Sound

The graphic animations and the use of sound are intended to enhance the "noise" in the texts, increase engagement with the content, and make the text more experiential. Additionally, an AI-generated voice reading the article provides an auditory extension of the text.
